Coffee is a very popular drink all over the world. Scientists have conducted various studies to determine if this drink is actually good for the health. Here are some reasons why you should or should not take coffee according to science:


It prevents Diabetes type 2

It has been proven that coffee is an essential element that helps to protect the body from developing diabetes type 2. According to a study done by the US Nurses Health, it was discovered that a person’s risk of having diabetes type 2 reduces when they drink coffee. It helps extend the life

Studies conducted in Harvard showed that when a person takes coffee 3 to 5 cups every day, it prolongs their life because it prevents them from having various diseases like Alzheimer’s diseases, asthma, Parkinson’s diseases, cardiovascular diseases etc. Coffee has a bioactive compound that reduces the presence of insulin and inflammation in the body.

Reduced tinnitus risk

Coffee prevents people from having tinnitus, a condition where they hear sounds coming from the insides of their body. It prevents a person from hearing their ears ringing according to studies when a woman drinks about 4 to 6 cups of coffee every day, she reduces her risks of getting tinnitus.

It reduces the risk of Parkinson’s disease

Several studies have shown that Parkinson’s disease is unlikely to occur in a person that takes coffee regularly. It has been strongly proven that coffee prevents Parkinson’s disease.

It protects the liver

Drinking coffee regularly will protect your body against liver cirrhosis. Studies conducted show that a person has 22% less risk of liver cirrhosis for every cup of coffee they take in a day. It also reduces alcoholic cirrhosis. Also by drinking more coffee in a day, a person reduces their risk of having severe hepatitis C.

It protects the body from gallstones and kidney stones

When people drink coffee they are less likely to develop the formation of gallstones and kidney stones. Studies have shown that drinking more coffee reduces a person’s risk by over 25% than people who do not drink coffee at all.


Heart health

Studies have tied heart diseases with the consumption of coffee. According to recent research, a person is at risk of getting coronary heart disease if they take 2 cups of espresso and mocha coffee every day.

Research shows that coffee is both beneficial and harmful to the cardiovascular system. The components in coffee like kahweol, diterpenes and cafestol increases the risk of heart disease.

It can cause Osteoporosis

Coffee has a negative reaction with calcium and can cause a person to excrete calcium in the body. When a person takes up to 4 cups of coffee daily, they are likely to get osteoporosis

Affects pregnancy in women

The weight of a child is affected when the mother takes coffee. The more coffee a pregnant woman consumes the higher the chance of her given birth to a child that is underweight. Most healthcare experts, advise women to avoid coffee or reduce their intake to about 200mg daily.

It affects sleep patterns

May student’s try to get through the night reading by drinking coffee. Coffee prevents one from feeling drowsy and helps to boost alertness. The problem, however, is that it reduces the quality of a person’s sleep over a long period of time. Studies show that when a person keeps drinking coffee constantly, it would prevent them from sleeping well.

It increases the cholesterol levels in the body

Coffee raises the cholesterol levels in the body, especially boiled coffee. Unfiltered coffee that contains cafestol, diterpenes and kahweol are the major causes for this. It is advisable to stay away from unfiltered coffee. Scandinavian boiled; Turkish coffee and cafetiere affect cholesterol while filtered coffee does not affect it.

It increases blood pressure

Coffee is a major cause of hypertension. It raises blood pressure because of the presence of caffeine. People who have more chances of getting hypertension should avoid coffee because they will increase the effect of the blood pressure with caffeine. Also, people with a lower risk of hypertension are likely to develop an increase in their blood pressure.


Caffeine in coffee can cause a mild diuretic that is responsible for the amount of urine a person excretes. Frequent urination can lead to dehydration. The solution to this problem will be to drink more water to prevent dehydration.

It can cause Rheumatoid arthritis

Taking decaffeinated coffee increases the occurrence of rheumatoid arthritis according to recent studies. Researchers have proven that decaffeinated coffee increases arthritic response. Women are likely to get this diseases especially if they take a lot of coffee in a day.

The reason why coffee causes rheumatoid arthritis is unknown but what can be proven is that the chances of a person getting this type of arthritis disease are high if they consume a lot of coffee. Researchers believe that decaffeinated coffee has some ingredients that could be associated with the causes of rheumatoid arthritis. These ingredients are somehow removed when the coffee is filtered but the actual ingredient that is removed is yet to be discovered.
